In this webinar, we hosted Philip Dwyer; a Design Ops Lead with more than 14 years of experience at AIB. He walked us through all the essential items when preparing for the UX job interview:
- design jobs/roles – what to look for and what to stay away from
- what hiring managers like to see in everyone’s CV
- your most recent experience working back
- highlight your experience related to the job
- outline your skills
- mirror the language of the job ad where possible
- highlight awards and education
- show that you are a person recruiter wants to see in the Team
- what to show in your portfolio and what to avoid,
- minimum of two case studies
- tell your story using both images and text
- think S.T.A.R. (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
- have UI and UX examples
- preparing for the job interview:
- Standard or Competency interview
- have examples written or prepared (S.T.A.R. format)
- relax, interviewers want to get the best from you
- most common questions you’ll be asked in the interview:
- define ‘design’
- what is your favourite project and why
- what is your favourite app and why
- who do you follow or read
- design test from his perspective
- why is asked in some interviews
- there is no wrong answer
- your questions and examples
- why do you like working here
- what is the day-to-day like
The session took approx 20 mins, followed by 30 mins of QA.
