About
“I’m Jack! I studied art many years ago and have a background in graphic design before transitioning into UX. From 2020 to 2021, I completed a Master’s in Creative Digital Media, specialising in UX and Interaction Design, at TU Dublin.
Shortly afterwards, I joined the UX Tree mentorship programme as a mentee, which I found really valuable. In April 2022, I started my first UX role as an Associate Product Designer at Genesys Cloud, and in February 2024 I progressed to a mid-level Product Designer.
Over the past four years, I’ve been fortunate to work on a range of interesting UX projects and problems, including projects that incorporate AI.
I’d like to become a mentor for two reasons. Firstly, I’d love to help more junior designers get their start in UX. I know how tough, competitive, and stressful it can be, and if I can support someone by sharing my own knowledge, experience, and tips, that would feel really worthwhile.
Secondly, I see this as an opportunity for my own growth. Mentoring would be a new experience for me, and I’d love to learn from it too. I think it could help me become better at supporting interns and junior designers I work with, and bring something valuable back into my own UX practice.”

Working experience

As part of this role, I’ve had the pleasure to collaborate with a wonderful team of designers. During this role, I've spent my time as part of the self-service and automation design team, working on an array of interesting and complex problems/projects. employing a design thinking mythology putting the user at the centre of the product design process.
* Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, employing three-in-the-box mythology working with product managers and engineers to define requirements, align on goals, present designs and ensure timely product delivery.
* Working with an end-to-end product design process, using ideation, wire framing, and prototyping. While creating visually appealing designs that align with Genesy’s design system while adhering to design principles. Translating complex ideas around AI and automation into intuitive user interfaces. Resulting in improved customer satisfaction.
* Conducting UX research including creating customer journey maps, Competitor reviews, taking part in customer interviews, and conducting usability tests.
* facilitating design Jams and brainstorming sessions.

Why UX?
“UX, like a lot of things in my career, started with curiosity. After studying art, I worked as a graphic designer, and during my first role I found myself becoming increasingly interested in the web and web design. Around that time, I also became a bit obsessed with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
I’ve always loved creative work, but when I had the opportunity to return to college and study UX, it really clicked for me. UX felt like a way to use creativity to work on things that matter and have a real impact on people.
My time as a mentee with UX Tree really helped me in the early stages of getting started in UX. I’ve also been fortunate to work with lots of great designers over the last four-plus years, and those experiences have really helped elevate my craft as a designer.”
What advice do you have for future mentees and UX designers?
“Don’t be afraid of getting feedback and stay curious when it comes to design and your career, and keep learning. Not every design will be perfect, but get comfortable sharing your work, and you’ll keep improving; it’s a process.”
