“I’m Luke a UX Designer at IBM working on an AI agent builder called watsonx Orchestrate. I’ve been here for about 1.5 years now and absolutely love it, it is a very design focused company and working on new technologies is really interesting and challenging!

I studied Computer Science & Media Studies in Maynooth University and that is where I discovered my passion for UX. I took a HCI (human-computer interaction) module and completely fell in love with design and knew that is what I wanted to do with my career.

Once I graduated I took up a role on a graduate program with Irish consultancy Version 1 where I worked in both Digital Marketing and later Web Development. I eventually landed my first UX role at Elavon/US Bank working as a UX/UI Designer. I spent 1.5 years there working in both innovation and then more traditional digital products.

I genuinely love UX and I am really passionate about giving back to students and people looking to break into the field. I know how hard it can be having been through many many failed applications before eventually landing my UX roles. I’ve made it a clear goal to mentor and support as many people as I can, because I know without the support I received from seniors/mentors I would not have been able to make it to where I am.

I’ve already taken part in multiple career fairs at my former university, I’ve presented to students about my experience and I’ve been a guest speaker at a UX Design Institute webinar (where I also studied). My next goal is to become and official mentor and I’ve been really impressed with the UX Tree’s work!”
