UX Tree Mentorship
What you'll learn
In this stage, Mentees are required to identify and validate a UX problem in an existing app or website and design a suitable solution for the chosen target audience.
The Discovery stage is all about identifying the root cause of a problem or a potential business opportunity. We achieve this through in-depth research to gain a clear understanding of the situation.
In the second stage, Define, the focus is on filtering and analysing the findings from the previous stage. This often involves narrowing down, identifying bottlenecks, and creating a list of problems and opportunities to focus on.
The third stage is where things get hands-on! We translate the insights from the first two stages into concrete design solutions. Here, understanding the user context becomes critical. We need to know how users will interact with the new prototype to ensure it effectively addresses their needs.
We’ll take the most promising concepts from earlier stages and put them to the test. This iterative process involves:
- Prioritizing Strong Options: Only the most viable ideas move forward.
- Rapid Testing: We’ll quickly evaluate each concept to see what works and what doesn’t.
- Gathering Valuable Feedback
- Based on the results, we’ll refine the most promising solutions.
Show Off Your Skills: The final step is crafting a compelling case study that captures your design journey!

What to expect once you become a Mentee
Once you are selected, you will be matched with an experienced UX designer who can guide and mentor you throughout the program. The mentor-mentee matching process is based on your goals and the mentor’s areas of expertise. Afterward, we will organize an introductory meeting to allow all new mentees and mentors to meet virtually.
As a mentee, you are encouraged to take the lead in driving the relationship with your mentor and to continue managing it for the remainder of the four-month program. Your mentor will assist you with any questions you have about the project.

Testimonials from Mentees
"I think it is a really well run programme. I love the way it is not focused specifically on entry-level/junior designers to learn about UX and more about up-skilling and learning from other highly experienced UX mentors to grow the skills you already have-don't think there are other programmes out there like that. Also as a UX Designer working remotely, I found it really nice to feel connected to UX Designers at home and hear about their jobs and projects they were doing."
---- Aoife Buckley, Head of UX @ SAVVY
"I cannot overstate how helpful this program has been. It has raised my whole UX game entirely. What I especially appreciated was the chance to interact with experts as well as other mentees. My research, prototyping, and presentation skills have been raised through this course."
---- Mark Byrne, UX Designer
"UX tree mentorship was a fantastic experience. Everyone was so nice and supportive. I feel lucky to have been able to meet other designers within this field and this programme provided the perfect way to do that. It was great to improve my presentation skills and UX skills too, having a mentor to bounce my doubts and questions off is beyond valuable. It helped to remove the guesswork out of the some of the techniques I was a bit more unsure of."
---- Lachlan Phelan, UX Designer
"As a career changer, this program was invaluable to help grown my confidence, skills and network in the UX industry. I improved my design and presentation skills, discovered new methods and became more confident defending design decisions and presenting my work. Overall, a great experience!"
---- Niamh Fahey, Content Designer @ IBM
"I really enjoyed the programme overall. I liked that we were able to pick a project that was our own choice and we were interested in. Designing for a brand much different than my previous experience was really great experience and seeing how others designed for even more of a variety of businesses was really helpful to broaden my knowledge of being a designer for different types of projects than I was used to. Particularly, my prototyping skills improved significantly, as did my research abilities and knowledge. "
---- Emily Stolberg, UX Designer @ AIB
"The UX Tree was a great place to learn. I’ve done online courses before, but this one really helped with real-time feedback and a great mentor. I loved seeing the rest of the mentees and their projects, learning how they approached their work. The breakout rooms were fantastic, allowing us to chat about our projects without any pressure. My weekly meetings with my mentor helped me stay focused and inspired me to explore my project in different ways."
---- Ronán McIntyre, Creative Director @ Tower Records
"A very well rounded UX mentorship program. Made me more confident in presenting my work and the feedback from mentors was always constructive."
---- Lorcan Looney, UX Designer
